A message from Hakeem Osinaike, Strategic Director of Housing.
I’m excited to introduce you to our dynamic Housing Department, where we’re not just managing properties—we’re shaping the future of our community.
Our department is structured into five key areas: Repairs & Maintenance, Landlord Services, Housing Needs & Support, and Construction. Each team plays a crucial role in managing our diverse range of properties, from charming Victorian houses to 1960s tower blocks. We take great pride in maintaining high standards and ensuring our services positively contribute to the well-being of our residents.
We oversee 55,000 homes, including 19 sheltered housing schemes and 2 extra care schemes, and support over 40,000 tenants and 15,000 leaseholders. Each year, we handle thousands of housing advice requests and are committed to addressing the increasing demand for temporary accommodation through innovative solutions to prevent homelessness.
Recent changes in regulations from bodies such as the Regulator for Social Housing and the Housing Ombudsman mean we’re more focused than ever on transforming our service delivery. We view this as an exciting opportunity to enhance our operations and meet both our statutory and community responsibilities with renewed energy and commitment.
We’re dedicated to making Southwark a fair and just place for everyone. From tackling housing inequalities to ensuring every resident has a safe, secure home, we’re driven by a mission to excel. Our efforts are nationally recognised, particularly in building safety and homelessness prevention, and we’re proud to be progressing with over 700 new homes currently under construction.
We’re currently looking to fill some key roles within our team: Director of Housing Needs and Support and Head of Housing Needs. These positions are essential as we continue to prevent homelessness, strengthen our partnerships with housing associations, and develop a unified housing strategy for Southwark.
